Make your own Envelopes

Materials
8" x 11" paper
paper glue
Procedure:

Envelope Pattern A
6 3/8" x 4 1/2" envelope template from a 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.
Cut a piece of 8" x 11" paper square to 8 1/2" x 8 1/2".
Mark the center of the piece by drawing 2 diagonal lines.
Measure 1 1/2" in from the bottom right corner and cut that piece off.
Measure 3 3/16" to either side of diagonal with cut off bottom pointing
straight down and opposite point (top) pointing up away from you.
This gives you the width of the envelope.
Measure 2 1/4" to either side of opposite diagonal. This gives the height.
Draw the envelope square and cut out so that the template has a window
and you also have a rectangular piece of paper the size of the finished
envelope. Keep this cutout, it is important for construction of the envelope.
This envelope holds a 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper folded into quarters.

Envelope Pattern B
9 1/8" x 6" envelope template from a 12" x 14" sheet of paper.

Cut a piece of 12" x 14" paper square to 12" x 12".
Mark the center of the piece by drawing 2 diagonal lines.
Measure 2 1/2" in from the bottom right corner and cut that piece off.
Measure 4 9/16" to either side of diagonal with cut off bottom pointing
straight down and opposite point (top) pointing up away from you. This
gives you the width of the envelope.
Measure 3 inches to either side of opposite diagonal. This gives the height.
Draw the envelope square and cut out so that the template has a window and
you also have a rectangular piece of paper the size of the finished envelope.
Keep this cutout, it is important for the construction of the envelope.
This envelope holds a 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper folded in half

Making the Envelope

  1. Lay the window template on the paper you are going to use for the envelope, positioning it so that the prettiest part is showing in the window and cut the paper to match your template.
  2. Put window template on wrong side of the paper and put the cut out part in the window.
  3. Place your hand on the cutout part in the window and lift off the outer window template.
  4. Fold the left corner of the paper to the center over the cut out part that you are still holding and crease. Do the same for the right corner.
  5. Now fold up the bottom and the top.
  6. REMOVE THE CUTOUT PART
  7. Glue the edge of the bottom on the sides flaps.

Congratulations! You have just made your own envelope!
